How to prepare a field and sow sunflower with strip-till

Start by chopping and spreading residues from the preceding crop evenly. The strip-till section should clear the seed line, loosen the strip and create a stable seedbed without cultivating the entire field surface.

Sunflower is generally sown 3–5 cm deep. Seeds should be evenly spaced and placed in moist soil; check downforce and placement depth directly in the field.

Sunflower row spacing and sowing time

A common sunflower row spacing is 70–75 cm. Coordinate it with the seeder, planned plant density and equipment used for crop care and harvest.

Sowing can begin when soil at seed depth reaches about 6–8°C and its moisture allows the strip to form correctly. Adjust the decision to local weather and the recommendations for the selected variety.

Check soil temperature and moisture first, then verify the section settings in the field.

Individual strip cultivation and fertiliser settings

There is no single working depth suitable for every field. Chisel and finishing-section settings depend on the soil profile, compaction, moisture and the amount of crop residue.

If fertiliser is applied during the pass, select its type, rate and placement from soil analysis and the fertilisation plan. Fertiliser should not come into direct contact with the seed.

Inspect the soil profile before selecting the loosening depth.
Maintain a consistent seed line and placement depth.
Check the result when soil type or moisture changes.
